Opportunities for Bachelor students
Students interested in studying the 'Origin and Prevalence of Life' can do so by enrolling in the 'Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Sciences' offered by the Department of Chemistry and Applied Biosciences, D-CHAB.
Please note that, at ETH Zurich, the main language of instruction in all Bachelor’s degree programmes is German. However, knowledge of English is essential.
Learn more about the programme in the ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ below.
The offering was formally approved on 19 April 2024. The full details of the 'Origin and Prevalence of Life' concentration of the 'BSc Interdisciplinary Sciences' are available on the corresponding webpage (in German).
The 'Origin and Prevalence of Life' related studies at the Bachelor level are integrated into the Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Sciences offered by the department of Chemistry and Applied Biosciences.
The foundation year consists of an interdisciplinary education in all basic subjects of the natural sciences, in which the students attend the courses together with the students of the corresponding subject area (e.g. physics with the physicists).
In the second and third year of study, there are still a few compulsory subjects specific to the subject area, which are examined in examination blocks. However, most subjects can be freely chosen as individualised subject packages within the framework of the two specialisations: the Biochemical-physical direction and the Physical-chemical direction.
Here you can see examples of such subject packages for the specialisations:
For all the details refer to the website of D-CHAB (in German).
